The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has announced the launch of a global survey examining the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), signaling a significant step toward understanding how emerging technologies are reshaping legal practice.
The initiative, led by the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR through its Task Force on Artificial Intelligence in Dispute Resolution, seeks to capture a comprehensive snapshot of how AI tools are currently being deployed across the arbitration community. The survey is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including legal counsel, arbitrators, in-house lawyers, government representatives, experts, and academics from jurisdictions around the world.
According to the ICC, the findings are intended to inform future policy discussions and best practices as AI becomes increasingly integrated into dispute resolution processes. The organization emphasized that all responses will remain anonymous, encouraging candid input from participants.
To ensure broad accessibility and global participation, the survey is available in multiple languages, including English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.
The move reflects a broader trend within the legal sector, where institutions are grappling with both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI—from improving efficiency and case management to raising questions about transparency, bias, and decision-making integrity.
